“Behold, my friends, the spring is come; the earth has gladly received the embraces of the sun, and we shall soon see the results of their love!” (Sitting Bull)
Happy Spring to all of our Verdugo Woodlands families. While Southern California may not have drastic seasonal changes, we do enjoy the subtle changes that bring an awareness of the warmer days ahead.
I hope you have all enjoyed the events that we have shared at VW this year and are looking forward to the upcoming Ritz benefit and the much-anticipated Fathers’ Follies! I know that Eileen Quast and her team have been hard at work preparing for our 9th Annual “Ritz”, “Springtime in the Jewel City”. If you haven’t already made plans to attend, please be sure to do so. This is a fun social evening where VW parents, staff and local community members come together for dinner, dancing and socializing. Josh Berg and his team of Dads have begun practicing weekly for the Fathers’ Follies, coming up in May. Every year the fathers of Verdugo Woodlands Elementary put on a fabulous show for the community. This year is no exception, so make sure you don’t miss out and bring your family and friends!
April 22nd is Earth Day and all throughout the school year, Stephanie Bartron and her dedicated team, have been working diligently to maintain the school gardens as well as the Vertical Garden that has been placed along the fence on the north side of the lower playground. Please come out and help Stephanie and her team for Campus Beautification Day on April 20th as we spruce up the garden areas with perennial plants. A special “Thank You” goes out to Stephanie Bartron and her team, La Cañada Nursery and the VW Dads’ Club for their hard work and donations.
Thank you to all of the families that have attended the PTA Meetings this year and a very special “Thank You” to 2nd grade student Sullivan Abrams for speaking at the March PTA meeting in an effort to bring attention to the inclusion of all VW students at events provided by VW PTA. Sullivan advised the PTA that some students do not feel they can attend an event due to their family structure. It was discussed that the PTA does not want any child to feel they are being treated unfairly, or made to feel they cannot participate in a PTA sponsored event and it is my hope that all of the students of Verdugo Woodlands Elementary are aware that they are welcome and not excluded from an event due to economics or family structure. Thank you for caring about others, Sullivan. You are an inspiration to all. “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot. Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”.. Dr. Suess
As my term as VW’s PTA President is nearing an end, I want to thank the Nominating Committee for their efforts in securing the 2013-14 PTA Executive Board and all that volunteered to fill the positions. Please plan on attending the first meeting of the new board on Wednesday, May 15th at 6:30 p.m. in the school cafeteria. Childcare is provided free of charge.
Stay Safe, Stay Well
